I don’t care much for “Hallmark Holidays” but it’s never a bad idea to remember your parents. And so today thoughts turn to my Dad, Stepdad and Grandfathers. Here is Dad, Grandad and Cousin Bill on the front porch on the occasion of his Roebuck High School graduation. This is taken in Columbia, SC upon [...]

William Faber Smith and his daughter Mary Kay. I’m not sure who the lad is playing in the water in the background.

Here are two more Coeds. Contemporaries of Ralph while he studied at University of the South. The photos of girlfriends didn’t fare well in Ralph’s post college days- this one having been broken. The back is labeled “Misses Annie M. Virgin & Kate Hastert”. I’m not sure if this is the same girl but the [...]

Now. You know as much about this photograph as I do- as all thats written on the back is “Bob”. It is interesting that this is the first I’ve found taken by a Spartanburg studio, A. Bernhardt. The rest of the Spartanburg photos were taken in an around the home.

I find this photo taken by a Canadian photographer, W. Notman. I don’t know anything about the gentleman in the photograph but possibly the image could be valuable for the photographer’s information.

This photo seems to be akin to the three women and child previously posted. I allowed irfanview to automatically enhance the colors as it was more successful than I in bringing out some contrast. I think this is a boy standing in his backyard.

I worked on this photo a little bit digitally, to removed the spotting. It’s unlabeled except for the photographers label on the reverse. Her “hat” made presumably of her own hair is quite impressive.

Here’s a postcard sent to Miss Minnie from Charleston, in 1905. It’s difficult to read but here’s a shot: Dear Cousin Minnie, I wish you a Happy brighter New Year. I thought you might like this view of the old Church. Your grandfathers grave is under the tree at left of the picture. With Love, [...]

This stern gentleman has quite the beard. He doesn’t resemble anyone I’ve seen, so if you recognize him please comment so we can put a name with the whiskers. Edit: This bears a resemblance to Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman and could have been part of a collectible card or photo series. If it isn’t him [...]
